The Protection of Personal Information Act No.4 of 2013 (“POPIA”) is aimed at giving effect to the Constitutional right to privacy by guarding against the unlawful collection, retention, dissemination and use of personal information.

The Act applies to all South African business owners, regardless of size and all such businesses must be complainant by 01 June 2021.

In order to be fully compliant with POPIA there are 8 principals as defined by the Act which must be complied with.
